New paper in Cell Host Microbe shows way to vaccine
June 29, 2019

Isolating a naturally occurring species of mouse Cryptosporidium, we developed a model of infection in normal immunocompentent mice. We show that mice develop immunity to the parasite after infection, and that a live attenuated vaccine offers the animals protection against it. This opens cryptosporidiosis to rigorous immunological analysis and provide the tools to work toward vaccine development. Read more about these findings in an article in the journal Cell Host & Microbe. Also see press releases by the University of Pennsylvania and the National Institutes of Health.
